AN ADVANCED DOOR-TO-DOOR SYSTEM FOR INTER-URBAN TRANSPORTATION
THE PRIVATE AUTOMOBILE SHOULD BE PART OF THE FUTURE DOOR- TO-DOOR INTER-URBAN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM. THIS INTER-URBAN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM TAKES THE CONVENTIONAL AUTOMOBILE, PLACES IT UPON A PALLET, AND SENDS IT ACROSS SPECIAL TRACKED GUIDEWAYS AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 150 MPH. TRIPS OF LESS THAN 30 MILES ARE NOT CONSIDERED FEASIBLE ON THE SPECIAL GUIDEWAY. THE SWITCHING MECHANISM IS PART OF THE PALLET. HEADWAY IS THE MINIMUM THAT WILL PREVENT COLLISIONS WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT IS USING ITS MAXIMUM DECELERATION CAPABILITY. THE CAPACITY PER LANE IS ABOUT 2700 CARS PER HOUR. TRIPS OF MANY HUNDREDS OF MILES ARE ENVISIONED. /BPR/
