EFFECTS OF CHRONIC EXPOSURE TO LOW LEVELS OF CARBON MONOXIDE ON HUMAN HEALTH, BEHAVIOR, AND PERFORMANCE
THE FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PRESENTED OF THE COMMITTEE ON EFFECTS OF ATMOSPHERIC CONTAMINANTS ON HUMAN HEALTH AND WELFARE OF THE NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL, NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, TO ASSESS THE STATE OF KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING THE EFFECTS OF CARBON MONOXIDE ON HUMAN HEALTH. ESTABLISHED FACTS ABOUT THESE EFFECTS ARE PRESENTED AND NEEDED RESEARCH RECOMMENDED. ATTENTION HAS FOCUSED ON LOW LEVEL EXPOSURE SUCH AS THOSE ENCOUNTERED ON CITY STREETS AND IN TRAFFIC TUNNELS. ASSESSMENT OF THESE EFFECTS HAS REQUIRED THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL TESTS; THE RESULTS ARE NOT YET DEFINITE.
