THE DETECTABILITY OF VARIOUS STOP AND TURN SIGNALS WAS TESTED IN NIGHT DRIVING, SUNLIGHT, FOG, CITY, AND COUNTRY DRIVING CONDITIONS. INTENSITY, FLASH, NUMBER, AND COLOR DIMENSIONS WERE INVESTIGATED. GREEN-BLUE TAILLIGHTS AND RED STOP-TURN LIGHTS SEPARATED FROM THE TAILLIGHTS WERE FOUND MOST EFFECTIVE, BUT SEVERAL OTHER COMBINATIONS WERE ALSO BETTER THAN THE PRESENT SYSTEM. /HSL/
