Gathering Around the Table: Coast Guard, Government, and Industry Collaborative Efforts to Combat Piracy
Collaborative efforts between the U.S. Coast Guard, U. S, government interagency partners, and the international maritime community, to combat maritime piracy, are described. Since the hijacking of the Maersk Alabama in 2009, the Coast Guard has hosted many roundtable meetings for maritime industry stakeholders, to discuss the U.S. government's actions to protect U.S. shipping and extend counter-piracy efforts. Counter-piracy summits were held, and guidance was offered for using armed security measures.
