AN EXPERIMENTAL TRIAL TO FORMULATE AN INVENTORY FOR DIAGNOSIS OF PSYCHOTICS AMONG DRIVERS

IT IS LEGALLY PROHIBITED FOR AUTOMOBILES TO BE OPERATED BY SUCH DRIVERS AS PSYCHOTICS, ALCOHOLICS AND NARCOTICS. HOWEVER, SEVERAL SURVEYS INDICATED THAT SOME PSYCHOTICS ARE NOW OPERATING AUTOMOBILES ON THE HIGHWAY. IN ORDER TO SCREEN THESE PSYCHOTICS WHO ALREADY OBTAINED DRIVER'S LICENSES, AN INVENTORY FOR DIAGNOSIS WAS ESTABLISHED. FOLLOWING RESULTS WERE OBTAINED THROUGH THE OBSERVATION: (1) RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE DIAGNOSIS MADE BY PSYCHIATRISTS AND THE OVERALL RATING MADE BY NONPROFESSIONALS SUCH AS POLICE OFFICERS WERE HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT IN TERMS OF THE ACCORDANCE OF THEIR JUDGEMENT, (2) BY CHECKING THE INVENTORY ITEMS, THE ACCORDANCE OF JUDGEMENTS MADE BY PROFESSIONALS AND BY NONPROFESSIONALS WERE HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT, AND (3) IN THE CONCLUSION, EVEN POLICE OFFICERS WITH MINOR KNOWLEDGE OF PSYCHIATRY COULD DISCRIMINATE PSYCHOTICS AMONG DRIVERS THROUGH CHECKING OF THE INVENTORY. /AUTHOR/
