NEW APPROACH TO SAFETY FOR SHIPBOARD SYSTEMS
The relatively new and broad area of system safety and the requirements for it in the development of shipboard systems is presented. Different analysis techniques such as Preliminary Hazards Analysis, Fault Hazard Analysis and Fault Free Analysis are described and examples of their development are presented. The paper concludes with a brief summary of effort both current and future in which system safety techniques have been or are to be applied.
