Can your community afford adaptive traffic control?
This article presents and discusses seven factors that affect pricing and return on investment for adaptive traffic control (ATC). Five cost components are as follows: components (software/hardware); detection (type required for optimal performance); communications (type, bandwidth, reliability); installation (software, hardware, detection and communications); and operation (annual cost of labor required to operate). In addition, guidance on what to ask vendors in terms of benefits and pricing, and advice on what to ask existing customers in terms of performance is included. Also presented is a table for calculating risk versus reward for adaptive traffic control options.
