AID ANALYSIS OF NATIONAL ACCIDENT SUMMARY DATA
AN ANALYSIS OF THE NATIONAL ACCIDENT SUMMARY FILE USING HSRI'S STATISTICAL RESEARCH SYSTEM, PARTICULARLY THE AID ALGORITHM, EFFECTIVELY DEMONSTRATED THAT THIS APPROACH CAN BE USED SUCCESSFULLY TO IDENTIFY SUBGROUPS OF CRASHES WITH DIFFERING SEVERITY. SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASHES WERE FOUND TO HAVE AN INJURY RATE (INJURIES PER INVOLVEMENT) ALMOST DOUBLE THAT OF MULTIPLE-VEHICLE CRASHES. THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE AID-GENERATED SUBGROUPS USING BOTH INJURY RATE AND FATALITY RATE AS DEPENDENT VARIABLES, AND ALSO GIVES THE ONE-WAY RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THESE DEPENDENT VARIABLES AND THE INDEPENDENT VARIABLES-ACCIDENT TYPE AND LOCATION, COLLISION TYPE, ROAD SURFACE, LIGHT CONDITIONS, DAY OF WEEK, HOUR OF DAY, VEHICLE TYPE, SEX, AND AGE GROUP. /AUTHOR/
