A STUDY OF ROADWAY LIGHTING
THIS STUDY ENCOMPASSED MANY FACETS OF ROADWAY LIGHTING, AND WAS FOCUSED WITH VARYING DEGREES OF EMPHASIS ON THE HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT, MAINTENANCE, RESEARCH, ECONOMICS, AND OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST IN THIS FIELD. INFORMATION COLLECTED AND REVIEWED WAS OBTAINED FROM NUMEROUS SOURCES AND BY VARIOUS METHODS, INCLUDING PUBLICATIONS, QUESTIONNAIRES, CORRESPONDENCE, ATTENDANCE AT SYMPOSIUMS, AND CONTACTS BY TELEPHONE AND IN PERSONAL VISITATIONS. WHILE NO NEW RESEARCH WAS UNDERTAKEN, FINDINGS, PAST AND CURRENT, ARE DISCUSSED BRIEFLY. SINCE LIGHTING STANDARDS ARE THE MOST COSTLY ITEMS USED IN ROADWAY LIGHTING SYSTEMS AND PLAY AN INDISPENSIBLE ROLE IN SUPPORTING THE LIGHT SOURCES, THIS STUDY GIVES PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THEIR DESIGN, FEATURES, PERFORMANCE, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS. THE INFORMATION PRESENTED IS A QUASI- CONDENSED REVIEW OF A NUMBER OF SEGMENTS AND AREAS RELATED TO THE CURRENT STATE-OF-THE-ART IN ROADWAY LIGHTING SYSTEM DESIGN AND INSTALLATION. /HSRI/
