A DETERMINATION OF THE RELATIVE COLLISION INVOLVEMENT OF TRUCKS AND OTHER VEHICLES
THREE SEPARATE MEASURES OF EXPOSURE TO CRASHES WERE USED TO STUDY COLLISION DATA FROM THE OHIO TURNPIKE FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY 1966 THROUGH JUNE 1970. THE MEASURES YIELDED DIFFERENT RESULTS, AND THE ASSUMPTIONS UNDERLYING THESE MEASURES WERE EXAMINED. CAUTION SHOULD BE EXERCISED TO ENSURE THAT THE APPROPRIATE MEASURE IS APPLIED. THE STATE OF THE ART IS NOT ADVANCED SUFFICIENTLY TO RELY ON A SINGLE MEASURE OF COLLISION EXPOSURE. /HSRI/
