AVALANCHE-DIODE AND GUNN-EFFECT DEVICES FOR DOPPLER RADAR APPLICATIONS
THE PROPERTIES OF AVALANCHE-DIODE AND GUNN-EFFECT DEVICES ARE INVESTIGATED FOR USE IN DOPPLER RADAR SYSTEMS, WHICH WILL HAVE MANY APPLICATIONS IN HIGHWAY SAFETY PROBLEMS. AVALANCHE-DIODE AND GUNN-EFFECT DEVICES ARE RELATIVELY NEW MICROWAVE SOLID-STATE DEVICES. THEY CAN NOW BE EMPLOYED IN VARIOUS MICROWAVE SYSTEMS AND AS OSCILLATORS, AMPLIFIERS AND DETECTORS AT MICROWAVE AND SHORTER WAVELENGTHS. SYSTEMS UTILIZING THESE DEVICES HAVE THE ADVANTAGES OF: (1) LOW COST; (2) IMPROVED RELIABILITY; (3) OPERATION AT MILLIMETER WAVELENGTHS FOR IMPROVED DIRECTIVITY, RESOLUTION AND SIZE; (4) INCORPORATION IN MICROWAVE INTEGRATED CIRCUITS FOR REDUCED SIZE AND COST; (5) DEPENDING ON THE FREQUENCY EMPLOYED THEY CAN BE OPERATED DIRECTLY OFF THE CAR BATTERY. /HSRI/
