THE VALIDITY OF DRIVING LICENSES AND THE DESIRABILITY OF PERIODICAL CHECK-UPS FOR CAR DRIVERS
PEOPLE OVER 60 YEARS OF AGE IN THE NETHERLANDS MUST PASS A MEDICAL EXAMINATION BEFORE THEY OBTAIN A DRIVING LICENCE. IN ALL OTHER CASES IT IS SUFFICIENT TO PRESENT A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE WHICH IS OBTAINED AFTER FILLING IN A DECLARATION FORM. RECENTLY A LEGAL CLAUSE HAS BEEN ADDED WHEREBY THE DRIVER, APART FROM DRIVING ABILITY, MUST ALSO POSSESS PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH. WHEN THE POLICE HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT THE CAPACITIES OF A DRIVER, A MEDICAL EXAMINATION CAN BE COMPULSORY, AND DEPENDING UPON THE OUTCOME, THE DRIVING LICENSE CAN BE WITHDRAWN. /TRRL/
