DIESEL ENGINE DEVELOPMENT IN JAPAN
In the big direct-coupled engine field only Mitsubishi, having its own design of large-bore engine, is active in forward projects. There is considerable activity in the medium/low-speed engine field of around 350 to 400 rpm. Perhaps the most impressive technically of Japans present diesel project is Fuji Diesels new design which, employing two-stage turbocharging and intercooling to give a bmep of over 350 psi, produces 353 bhp/cyl with 750 rpm 10 1/4x12 1/4 in. four-stroke. Details are given for engines from Akasaka Iron Works, Niiagta Engineering Co, Mitsui, Fuji Diesel, and Mitsubishi.
