INVESTIGATIONS INTO TRAFFIC FLOW ON MOTORWAY GRADIENTS
THE AUTHOR REPORTS ON THE WORKING METHODOLOGY WHICH WAS APPLIED TO THE DRAWING UP OF CRITERIA FOR THE DESIGN OF CLIMBING LANES ON MOTORWAY GRADIENTS. STUDIES OF TRAFFIC FLOW ON A GRADIENT OF THE RUHR-HANOVER MOTORWAY SHOWED THAT TRAFFIC OBSERVATIONS ALONE DO NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT DATA FOR AN EVALUATION OF TRAFFIC FLOW DEPENDING ON TRAFFIC VOLUME AND THE PERCENTAGE OF HEAVY COMMERCIAL VEHICLES. HOWEVER, THESE OBSERVATIONS DO PROVIDE CERTAIN STATISTICAL FACTS WHICH CAN BE APPLIED TO THE SIMULATION OF TRAFFIC FLOW ON ELECTRONIC COMPUTERS. /FG/RRL/
