TORSION BAR BOGIES ON THE RHAETIAN RAILWAY
As a result of experiments with a novel type of bogie designed to provide improved riding at speeds up to 40 mph on their metre-gauge electrified system, the Rhaetian Railway are equipping four types of carriages with a bogie built by SIG. The results of road tests with the SIG bogie are shown, along with the road tests of the bogies originally on the carriages. These latter bogies were built before 1930. Transverse oscillations have been reduced considerably when compared to that experienced with the original bogies. Longitudinal movement is little influenced by the type of bogie, and this was slightly reduced. Tare weight of the cars is approximately one ton less than the original weight.
