A SIGN INVENTORY PROCEDURE
STANDARDIZATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNS IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE OF THE CONDITIONS OF MODERN DRIVING. MANY STATES HAVE ADOPTED STANDARDS FOR THEIR SIGNS. SIGNS NOT MEETING THE STANDARDS HAVE NO LEGAL STATUS. A SIGN INVENTORY IN ILLINOIS IS DESCRIBED. EACH SIGN HAS BEEN NUMBERED SO THAT IT CAN BE LOCATED. DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING AND THE COMPUTER PROGRAMS USED ARE DESCRIBED. COST ESTIMATES ARE GIVEN FOR IMPROVING SIGNS NOT MEETING THE STANDARDS. /HSL/
