Relocating a local landmark
In order to meet modern-day transportation requirements, a county and township in Pennsylvania partnered together in a first-of-its-kind agreement to relocate an historic covered bridge. Keller's Covered Bridge, a single-span Burr arch truss structure that is listed in the National Register of Historic Places in Lancaster County, continues to serve traffic in its new location, while a contemporary bridge has replaced it, capable of handling increased traffic volumes and meeting modern safety standards. The construction methods and details of this relocation and county/township partnership are presented in this article.
