BUSES BEFORE CARS AT SOUTHAMPTON
DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A BUS PRIORITY SCHEME TO BE INTRODUCED IN SOUTHAMPTON. PRIVATE CARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER A 3 1/4 MILE STRETCH OF ROAD ONLY AT SELECTED POINTS. BUSES WILL BE ABLE TO JOIN THE MAIN STREAM AT OTHER POINTS, THUS GAINING PRECEDENCE OVER OTHER VEHICLES. TRAFFIC PROGRESS WILL BE CONTROLLED BY VARYING THE GREEN PHASE TIME AT THE 13 SIGNALLED INTERSECTIONS ALONG THE MAIN ROUTE. /RRL/
