Structural Monitoring System at Marine Section of the Incheon Bridge
The Incheon Bridge, the longest bridge in Korea which crosses the Yellow Sea, consists of several bridges with special features. A bridge health monitoring system of the marine section of the Incheon Bridge is introduced. This monitoring system was planned focusing on the maintenance of the cable stayed bridge, which is the main bridge span of the Incheon Bridge. All instruments were installed on the bridge and they have indicated their location thanks to the GPS. Tiltmeters, cable tension meters, laser displacement meters, strain gauges, thermometers, and bearing shoe displacement meters were attached at the bridge. Additional sensors for better maintenance of the bridge during the traffic operations were installed on the connecting bridge and viaducts for a continuous bridge health monitoring system of Incheon Bridge. Advanced monitoring systems, such as Shape Management System using GPS, Earthquake Measurement System, All-the-data Time Synchronization System, Sensor Surveillance and Management System, and, Intelligent Management System connecting External System were adopted for this bridge. In addition, Real-time Inquiry System and Event Management System were adopted for real-time bridge movement surveillance and event occurrence encounters.
