PROCEDURES DEVELOPED TO MEASURE WET SKID RESISTANCE OF VEHICLE-TIRE-ROAD SYSTEM

A SIMPLE, RELIABLE TECHNIQUE FOR ASSESSING THE OVERALL SKID RESISTANCE OF A VEHICLE-TIRE SYSTEM ON WET, SLIPPERY ROADS HAS BEEN DEVISED. TWO DIFFERENT ROAD SURFACES ARE USED, AND BOTH NEW AND WORN TIRES CAN BE TESTED. THE VEHICLES USED FOR THE TEST REQUIRE A NUMBER OF MODIFICATIONS. THE TEST ACTUALLY CONSISTS OF FOUR SEPARATE PROCEDURES: CORNERING AT CONSTANT THROTTLE, CORNERING WITH ACCELERATION TORQUE EFFECT, DECELERATION UNDER ROLLING AND LOCKED-WHEEL CONDITIONS, AND RESISTANCE TO WHEEL SPIN. /AUTHOR/
