UPGRADING DRIVER LICENSING VISION RE-EXAMINATION
THE HISTORY OF VISION EXAMINATIONS FOR DRIVERS IN NEW YORK STATE, AND HOW THE RECENT FEDERAL HIGHWAY SAFETY PROGRAM STANDARD FORCED A CHANGE UPON THE PROGRAM ARE RELATED. DATA FROM NEW YORK'S PREVISIOUS VISION EXAMINATION PROGRAM HAS SHOWN THAT THE PROGRAM IS EFFECTIVE IN FOSTERING PROFESSIONAL EYE EXAMINATIONS AMONG THE PUBLIC. INDIVIDUALS WHOSE VISION HAS FALLEN BELOW STANDARD ARE BEING DETECTED AND INFORMED OF THE DEFECT, AND IN ALMOST EVERY CASE THE VISUAL DEFECT CAN AND IS BEING CORRECTED. /AUTHOR/
