ROLL-OVER CAN BE CAUSED BY GOING TO SLOWLY
RESULTS OF AN INVESTIGATION INTO OVERTURNING OF BIG TRUCKS (ESPECIALLY ARTICULATED VEHICLES) GOING THROUGH AN S-BEND MANEUVRE AT LOW SPEED SHOW THAT, WITH HIGH AND HEAVY LOADS, THE NATURAL ROLL FREQUENCY OF THE VEHICLE IS WITHIN THE BAND OF FREQUENCY OF STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT AT QUITE LOW SPEED, AND THAT IF THE CHANGE OF STEERING FROM ONE DIRECTION TO ANOTHER IS AT A FREQUENCY WHICH COINCIDES WITH THE ROLL FREQUENCY, THE VEHICLE WILL OVERTURN. REMEDIAL MEASURES ARE PROPOSED. /RRL/
