NEW STEPS IN DRIVER EDUCATION
"A RESOURCE CURRICULUM IN DRIVER AND TRAFFIC SAFETY EDUCATION", BY DR. R.W. BISHOP, IS REVIEWED. IT IDENTIFIES THE GOAL OF DRIVER EDUCATION: "TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF HUMAN DECISIONS AND PERFORMANCE TASKS RELATED TO THE SYSTEM IN A MANNER THAT ENCOURAGES CONTINUING IMPROVEMENT". THIS DEFINITION RECOGNIZES THAT DRIVING INVOLVES A MENTAL PROCESS AS WELL AS MANIPULATIVE SKILLS; DRIVERS MUST BE ABLE TO MAKE SENSIBLE DRIVING DECISIONS. OTHER BOOKS AND PAMPHLETS WHICH FOLLOWED FROM "A RESOURCE CURRICULUM..." ARE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED.
