HIGH-HIGH LIGHTING IN HOUSTON

FOUR 175-FT-HIGH LIGHTING UNITS IN A NEW HOUSTON INSTALLATION PROVIDE AS MUCH LIGHT AS NINETY-EIGHT 50- FT REGULAR MEDIAN MOUNTED STREET LIGHTING STANDARDS. THESE "HI-LITE" UNITS ARE IN BUSINESS OVER THE 610 INTERSECTION OF THE WEST AND SOUTH LOOP ON BRAESWOOD. THE LIGHT IS DIRECTED DOWNWARD, GIVING LESS GLARE, UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION OF LIGHT. THE UNITS ARE INSTALLED WELL OFF THE HIGHWAY, AWAY FROM TRAFFIC. EACH OF THE FOUR STRUCTURES HAS A RING ON WHICH TEN 1000-WATT FLOODLIGHTS ARE MOUNTED. THIS RING CAN BE RAISED OR LOWERED FROM GROUND LEVEL BY A HYDRAULIC HOIST. THE 28,000-LB GALVANIZED STEEL STRUCTURES WERE ENGINEERED AND MANUFACTURED TO TEXAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT SPECIFICATIONS. /R&UR/
