THE MEASUREMENT OF SAFETY ENGINEERING PERFORMANCE
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SAFETY ENGINEERING MEASUREMENT PROBLEM ARE DESCRIBED, AND STANDARDS AS WELL AS OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MEASURING SAFETY PERFORMANCE ARE DISCUSSED. CRITERIA WHICH SEEM GERMANE TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SAFETY ENGINEERING PERFORMANCE MEASURE ARE GIVEN. THEIR APPLICATION IN A STUDY WHICH EXPLORED THE POSSIBILITY OF INTER-MODULAR MEASUREMENT OF SAFETY PERFORMANCE IS DESCRIBED. THE RESULTS AND FOLLOW-UP FINDINGS, BASED ON A MODIFICATION OF THE APPROACH IDENTIFIED BY THE STUDY, ARE REPORTED. THE CONCLUSION SUGGESTS A FUTURE COURSE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SAFETY ENGINEERING PERFORMANCE MEASURES, AS WELL AS CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE APPLICATION OF CURRENT STANDARD MEASURES DURING THE DEVELOPMENT OF IMPROVED METHODS OF MEASURING SAFETY EFFECTIVENESS. /AUTHOR/
