Managing Statewide Traffic Mobility During a Major Construction Campaign

A massive reconstruction program on major highway corridors will have an impact on road users. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has implemented policies and processes to manage the major bridge reconstruction program to minimize the travel time impact that road users will experience. In order to assist in the management of the program and provide a reliable measure of effectiveness in maintaining good traffic flow, ODOT and the Oregon Bridge Delivery Partners (OBDP) have turned to an intelligent transportation system (ITS) solution. Transponder equipped trucks that are identified by the Green Light pre-clearance program will be used as probe vehicles to measure actual travel times on key highway segments. This system will be able to determine compliance with standards that have been set and in turn, manage traffic to improve conditions to ensure targets for mobility are being met.
