SURFACE IRREGULARITY AS A MEANS OF REDUCING VEHICLE SPEED
TESTS ARE DESCRIBED WHICH SHOW THAT A DESIGNED IRREGULARITY OF ROAD SURFACE CAN BE USED TO LIMIT VEHICLE SPEEDS. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT AT THE LONGBARN HOUSING AREA, WARRINGTON, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND, WHERE IT WAS DESIRED TO INTEGRATE PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICLE ENVIRONMENT. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE TYPES OF BITUMINOUS SURFACES CONSTRUCTED, THE CONSTRUCTION METHODS USED, THE AMPLITUDES OF VIBRATION PRODUCED AND THE TYPES OF CARS USED IN THE TEST. /TRRL/
