ANALYTICAL PROCEDURE FOR CALCULATING THE AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF VEHICLES TRAVELING IN TUNNELS
A NUMERICAL METHOD IS PRESENTED FOR DETERMINING AERODYNAMIC DRAG AND POWER REQUIREMENTS OF A VEHICLE OPERATING IN A TUNNEL. THE THEORY AND NUMERICAL TECHNIQUES USED ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL. LOW VEHICLE SPEED (.100 M.P.H.) RESULTS ARE PRESENTED AND IS SHOWN TO COMPARE FAVORABLY WITH EXPERIMENTAL AND OTHER THEORETICAL DATA. HIGH SPEED RESULTS FOR OPERATION IN LONG TUNNELS OVER A RANGE OF TUNNEL/VEHICLE GEOMETRIES ARE ALSO GIVEN. THESE RESULTS CAN BE USED FOR PRELIMINARY DESIGN APPLICATIONS. /AUTHOR/
