SUBMERGED-ARC WELDING OF Q.T.35 INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION OF THE N.C.R.E. FLUX

Electrode manufacturers have cooperated with N.C.R.E. in producing, by agglomeration, large batches of the experimental flux previously made by fusion on a laboratory scale. Physical and chemical tests have been done on the flux itself to assess the differences resulting from a different method and scale of manufacture. Differences of both kinds have been found, some of mainly theoretical interest but others of more practical importance. The differences were minimized when the agglomerated flux was handled in the same way as basic-coated manual electrodes, using A.632 wire the the welds produced, both in Q.T.35 and in H.Y.80, have been highly satisfactory. Further trials at the shipyards are beginning.
