NIGHTTIME INSPECTION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES
THE OBJECTIVE WAS TO DEVELOP NIGHTTIME INSPECTION PROCEDURES FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AND MARKINGS. IT WAS ESSENTIAL TO FIRST DEVELOP APPROPRIATE EVALUATION CRITERIA AND TECHNIQUES AND THEN ADAPT THAT CRITERIA TO FIELD WORK SHEETS. THE WORK SHEETS WOULD HELP AN EVALUATOR IN UNIFORMLY DETERMINING THE COMPLETENESS AND ADEQUACY OF TRAFFIC DEVICES INSTALLED AT A SPECIFIC LOCATION TO ACCOMPLISH A SPECIFIC INTENT. THE WORK SHEETS WERE TO UTILIZE SOME FORM OF RATING SYSTEM THAT WOULD INCLUDE ELEMENTS CONCERNING THE PERTINENT FACTORS OF A SPECIFIC LOCATION AS TO ITS VISIBILITY, ALIGNMENT, APPROACH SPEEDS, ROADWAY WIDTH, AND TRAFFIC MARKINGS AND DEVICES. /HSRI/
