NEWTORK FLOW SIMULATION FOR URBAN TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM
A DESCRIPTION IS PRESENTED OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NETWORK FLOW SIMULATION MODEL CAPABLE OF EVALUATING ALTERNATIVE NETWORK CONTROL STRATEGIES. THE MODEL IS CAPABLE OF REPRESENTING A NETWORK OF UP TO 200 INTERSECTIONS, AND OF SIMULATING INDIVIDUAL VEHICLES, VEHICLE AND PEDESTRIAN BEHAVIOR, BUS TRAFFIC, PARKING, AND TRAFFIC VOLUME, SPEED, AND DENSITY. THE MODEL WAS CALIBRATED AND VALIDATED FOR A 20-INTERSECTION NETWORK IN WASHINGTON, D.C. THE DATA WERE OBTAINED BY AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY DURING A 3-HOUR MORNING PEAK PERIOD AND A 3-HOUR OFF-PEAK PERIOD.
