Developing Accessible Cities in India (Naya Raipur, Capital City of Chattisgarh)

The main objective of Urban Design and Landscape Design of the new capital city of Chhattisgarh, Naya Raipur, is to visualize a new city on an 80 square kilometre greenfield site for a population of 500,000. The overall goal is to create design tools capable of producing an imageable capital city for Chhattisgarh in which regional identity of the state and the democratic ideals of the nation are upheld, and the future aspirations of the new city to play a vital role in the global economy is nurtured. In addition to reinforcing the role of Naya Raipur as a new capital city, the urban design of Naya Raipur promotes sustainable urbanism by combining the creation and enhancement of walkable and diverse places with the need to build high-performance, energy-efficient infrastructure and buildings. Traffic movement and type of traffic was also studied to understand the zoning and facilities to be provided for the local masses.
