PRACTICAL SCHEME FOR PREDICTING NOISE LEVELS (L10) ARISING FROM ROAD TRAFFIC
A SIMPLE SCHEME IS PRESENTED WHICH ALLOWS NOISE LEVELS AT A DISTANCE OF 120 METRES FROM FREELY-FLOWING TRAFFIC ON STRAIGHT AND LEVEL ROADS TO BE PREDICTED WITHOUT THE NEED FOR CALCULATION. SETS OF CONTOURS ARE GIVEN WHICH PERMIT THE EVALUATION OF A WIDE RANGE OF CONFIGURATIONS INCLUDING ELEVATED, LEVEL AND SUNKEN ROADS WITH NOISE BARRIERS OF VARIOUS HEIGHTS AT DIFFERENT DISTANCES FROM THE ROAD. FROM COMPARISONS MADE WITH RECENT FIELD MEASUREMENTS COVERING A RANGE OF TYPICAL URBAN SITUATIONS IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THE ABSOLUTE PREDICTION ACCURACY IS OF ORDER 2 DB. /AUTHOR/
