THE LITERATURE WAS SEARCHED AND ORGANIZATIONS CONTACTED FOR INFORMATION ON THE EFFECTS OF HIGHWAY SAFETY COUNTERMEASURES IN THE AREAS OF DRIVER PROPORTION, DRIVER REGULATION, MOTOR VEHICLE REGULATION, PEDESTRIAN SAFETY, POST-CRASH OPERATIONS AND PUBLIC INFORMATION. THE MATERIAL OBTINED WAS REVIEWED FOR QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION. STUDIES FOUND TO CONTAIN SUCH INFORMATION RELEVANT TO COST- EFFECTIVENESS STUDIES WERE SYNOPSIZED.
