AN AUTOMATIC DRIVING SYSTEM OF AUTOMOBILES BY GUIDANCE CABLES
AN AUTOMATIC DRIVING SYSTEM CAPABLE OF CONTROLLING A MOTOR VEHICLE ALONG A GUIDANCE CABLE WAS DEVELOPED. FABRICATED WITH FULLY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, THE EQUIPMENT HAS A SIMPLE AND RELIABLE STRUCTURE AND COULD BE MADE AT A LOW COST. THE AUTOMATIC STEERING SYSTEM AND SPEED AND BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM ARE DESCRIBED. SEVERAL TEST RUNS WITH A VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH THE CONTROL APPARATUS WERE PERFORMED. THE COURSE DEVIATIONS WERE WITHIN 20 MM IN STEADY STATE RUNNING FOR SPEEDS RANGING 20-100 KM/H. THE RIDERS IN THE VEHICLE FELT FAIRLY COMFORTABLE. THIS SYSTEM IS GOING TO BE USED FOR DRIVERLESS TESTS OF AUTOMOBILES, AND IT IS ALSO EXPECTED TO BE APPLIED TO THE DUAL MODE SYSTEM. /NHTSA/
