FRONT PASSENGER SYSTEM--DESIGN AND PRODUCTION
A RELIABLE, PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEM DESIGNED TO IMPROVE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT OVER A WIDE RANGE OF REAL-WORLD CONDITIONS IS DESCRIBED. THE BASIC STEPS LEADING TO THIS STAGE OF PRODUCTION ARE COVERED, AND MAJOR POINTS REGARDING THE FUTURE ARE DISCUSSED. TESTS USING DUMMIES ARE OUTLINED IN WHICH TYPICAL BARRIER CRASH CONDITIONS WERE EVALUATED WITH FOUR DIFFERENT SIZE DUMMY OCCUPANTS IN A VARIETY OF SEATING POSITIONS. STATIC/DYNAMIC TESTS WITH ANIMALS, AND HUMAN VOLUNTEER TESTS ARE DESCRIBED. A BASIC RELIABILITY PLAN IS REVIEWED. VEHICLE ASSEMBLY, FIELD EXPERIENCE AND FUTURE AUTOMATED MANUFACTURING ARE OTHER ASPECTS DISCUSSED.
