THE ECONOMIC EFFECTIVENESS OF MANDATORY ENGINE MAINTENANCE FOR REDUCING VEHICLE EXHAUST EMISSIONS: VOL II- MODELING OF INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE SYSTEMS
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH WERE TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF MANDATORY VEHICLE INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE ON VEHICLE EXHAUST EMISSIONS AND TO IDENTIFY THE MORE COST EFFECTIVE PROCEDURES FOR DIAGNOSING AND RESTORING TO SPECIFICATION THOSE MALADJUSTED OR MALFUNCTIONING ENGINE COMPONENTS WHICH MOST SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT EMISSIONS. THE REPORT DESCRIBES THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INSPECTION/MAINTENANCE (I/M) ECONOMIC EFFECTIVENESS MODEL AND THE STUDY RESULTS. THE MODEL PROVIDES A CONSISTENT AND SYSTEMATIC FRAMEWORK FOR EVALUATING THE ECONOMIC EFFECTIVENESS OF INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES USING DATA DEVELOPED IN THE EXPERIMENTAL PORTION OF THE STUDY. /NTIS/
