ESTIMATING AUTO EMISSIONS OF ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
THE REPORT DISCUSSES THE DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF A MODEL WHICH CAN ESTIMATE THE MAGNITUDES OF CARBON MONOXIDE, HYDROCARBONS, AND OXIDES OF NITROGEN AUTOMOBILE EMISSIONS FOR ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS. THE MODEL CONSISTS OF THREE DISTINCT PHASES: AN AUTO VEHICLE TRIP ORIGIN SUB-MODEL; A SUB-MODEL WHICH PRODUCES FORECASTS OF AUTO TRAVEL CHARACTERISTICS; AND AN EMISSION LEVEL ESTIMATOR. IT PRODUCES ESTIMATES AT THE SUBAREA LEVEL. RESULTS OF APPLYING THE MODEL TO THE WASHINGTON, D.C., REGION ARE DISCUSSED. THIS APPLICATION STUDIED THE EFFECTS OF BOTH ALTERNATIVE HIGHWAY AND TRANSIT SYSTEMS ON 1976 EMISSIONS WITHIN THE REGION. /AUTHOR/
