CRC-APRAC STATUS REPORT

THE COORDINATING RESEARCH COUNCIL'S AIR POLLUTION RESEARCH PROGRAM IS IN ITS FOURTH YEAR OF DEVELOPING DATA ON VEHICLE EMISSIONS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT. THE PROGRAM, JOINTLY CONDUCTED BY THE AUTOMOTIVE AND PETROLEUM INDUSTRIES AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, HAS PRODUCED ABOUT 40 MAJOR REPORTS, WITH AN ADDITIONAL 20 SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE DURING 1972. AS OF THE BEGINNING OF 1972, 31 RESEARCH PROJECTS WERE UNDERWAY AT VARIOUS UNIVERSITIES, INDEPENDENT RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS, AND INDUSTRIAL AND GOVERNMENT LABORATORIES. THE PROGRAM IS PLANNED IN 3-YEAR INCREMENTS. THE FIRST INCREMENT, WHICH CLOSED AT THE END OF 1970, WAS FUNDED AT THE $12 MILLION LEVEL; THE SECOND INCREMENT IS BEING FUNDED AT THE $10 MILLION LEVEL. SUMMARIES OF THE REPORTS AND PROJECTS ARE BROKEN DOWN UNDER THE FOLLOWING HEADINGS: ENGINEERING PROJECTS, ATMOSPHERIC PROJECTS, MEDICAL PROJECTS, IN-HOUSE PROGRAM, RELEASED REPORTS, STRUCTURE AND OPERATIONS OF CRC, AND INDIVIDUAL PROJECTS. APPENDICES LIST INDIVIDUAL AND CORPORATE CRC MEMBERS AND THEIR ASSIGNMENT TO COMMITTEES AND PROJECTS, AS WELL AS THE SCHEDULES FOR ALL ON-GOING AND APPROVED PROJECTS.
