EXPERIMENTS ON SUPERCAVITATING HYDROFOILS OF FINITE SPAN WITH COMPARISIONS TO THEORY
Supercavitating hydrofoils of aspect ratio 5 and 3 were built and tested. Measurements of lift, drag, and moment coefficient, and cavity length were taken and comparisons with theory made. The agreement between predicted and experimental results was quite good for long cavities at low angles of attack. For short cavities and large angles of attack the data differs markedly from the theoretically predicted results. The agreement was slightly better for the higher aspect ratio foil than the lower one.
