Transportation in Eastern Europe: Empirical Findings

This book focuses mainly on how the transport sector in Eastern Europe actually functions, as opposed to the theoretical aspects. It intends to provide the reader with information hitherto unavailable in the West, including the functioning of Soviet-type economies and about the wider setting and problems of transport. The study is a "first" on the subject in the English language. The seven chapters it includes are titled as follows: (1) Introduction (including the importance of transport); (2) Geographic and Economic Determinants of Transport in Eastern Europe; (3) National Planning of Transportation; (4) Statistical Growth of Transport in Eastern Europe Since World War II; (5) The Cost of Transport in Eastern Europe; (6) International Aspects of Transport in Eastern Europe; and (7) Conclusions and Projections.
