This distribution study is in two phases. In the first phase of the study, the relative importance and economics of rail transportation are analyzed as they apply to the distribution process of construction aggregates. In the second phase, ten case studies, representing both typical operations and operations which offer significant opportunities for improvement in service to aggregate producers and profitability for the railroad, are discussed.
