EVALUATION OF REFLECTORIZED TRAFFIC SIGN MATERIALS UNDER CONTROLLED RAINFALL CONDITIONS

LABORATORY TESTING OF REFLECTORIZED TRAFFIC SIGN MATERIALS UNDER CONTROLLED RAINFALL CONDITIONS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED USING THE TESTING TECHNIQUE DEVELOPED IN THIS RESEARCH STUDY. RESULTS OF THE TESTING SHOW THAT REFLECTIVE INTENSITY OF TRAFFIC SIGNS WILL NOT ALWAYS BE LOWERED WHEN SUBJECTED TO RAINFALL CONDITIONS; IN FACT, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS THE AMOUNT OF REFLECTIVE INTENSITY MAY BE INCREASED WITH INCREASED WETNESS. RAINFALL INTENSITY IN EXCESS OF 1.08 IPH DOES SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT THE REFLECTIVE INTENSITY OF EXPOSED LENS MATERIAL. WEATHERING WILL REDUCE MATERIALS' REFLECTIVE INTENSITY. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH SUGGEST THE POTENTIAL USE OF THIS TESTING PROCEDURE FOR EVALUATING PAVEMENT MARKINGS. /AUTHOR/
