Integrated, liveable corridor plans
The preparation of Corridor Plans that can combine elements of large-scale strategy and specific local design detail is a key step in the implementation of broad liveability concepts. The paper outlines experiences gained by the authors in the development of Corridor Plans for the former Auckland City Council, New Zealand as part of the implementation of its Liveable Arterials Plan (the subject of a paper to the AITPM 2009 Conference). The process raised some key challenges in meeting potentially conflicting public transport and town centre urban design objectives and in dealing with the difficult choices inherent in trying to encourage public transport, walking and cycling on arterial routes.
