GUIDELINES FOR IMPROVING THE STABILITY OF HEADLAMP AIM
THE SAFETY SIGNIFICANCE OF IMPROPERLY AIMED HEADLIGHTS, THE MECHANISMS BY WHICH THEY DEVELOP MISAIM AND MEASURES BY WHICH THE GENERATION OF MISAIM MAY BE AVOIDED WERE STUDIED. SURVEYS WERE CONDUCTED OF THE AIM CONDITION OF HEADLAMPS IN NORMAL OPERATION IN STATES WITH AND WITHOUT PMVI FOR PASSENGER CARS AND TRUCKS. THE EFFECT OF VARYING DEGREES OF MISAIM ON THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO SEE ROADSIDE OBJECTS WITH AND WITHOUT OPPOSING TRAFFIC WAS DETERMINED. SOURCES OF MISAIM ARISING FROM VEHICLE DESIGN AND OPERATION WERE DETERMINED AS WELL AS THOSE RELATED TO HEADLAMP ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES. DATA IS PROVIDED FOR PREDICTING VISIBILITY WITH PROTOTYPE HEADLAMP SYSTEMS. /AUTHOR/
