WILLIAMSBURG CONFERENCE ON HIGHWAY SAFETY RESEARCH
CONCRETE RECOMMENDATIONS AND PRIORITIES ARE MADE FOR FUTURE RESEARCH PROJECTS TO BE SPONSORED BY THE VEHICLE RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE SAE OVER THE NEXT THREE TO FIVE YEARS. THE CONFERENCE AND THESE PROCEEDINGS ARE DIVIDED INTO EIGHT BROAD FIELDS TO INVESTIGATE WAYS TO IMPROVE VEHICLES AND HIGHWAY SAFETY. THESE GROUPINGS DEAL WITH VEHICLE ACCIDENT REDUCTION FACTORS, WITH VEHICLE FACTORS AFFECTING OCCUPANT INJURY SEVERITY, WITH ROADSIDE PHYSICAL FACTORS AND SYSTEM OPERATIONAL FACTORS. OTHER ELEMENTS CONSIDERED ARE OCCUPANT INJURY TOLERANCE FACTORS, DRIVER PERFORMANCE FACTORS, TRUCK, BUS, AND MULTI- PURPOSE VEHICLE SAFETY, AND SAFETY EFFECTIVENESS.
