MULTIDISCIPLINARY ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION SUMMARIES, VOLUME 2, NUMBER 4.
THE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION DIVISION OF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION IS CONDUCTING IN-DEPTH STUDIES OF HIGHWAY CRASHES THROUGH CONTRACTS WITH UNIVERSITY AND RESEARCH-BASED MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAMS. THE PROGRAM HAS THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES: TO IDENTIFY CONTRIBUTING FACTORS IN AUTOMOBILE CRASHES; AND INJURY CAUSATION; TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COUNTERMEASURES; TO PROVIDE EARLY DETECTION OF DESIGN AND FUNCTIONAL PROBLEMS OF THE VEHICLE AND THE HIGHWAY.
