TEST RESPONSE OF IMPROVED SAFETY AIR CUSHION SYSTEM
THE REPORT PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF TWO TESTS PERFORMED USING THE ARA, INC. PASSIVE RESTRAINT AIR BAG SYSTEM; A STATIC INFLATION TEST AND A DYNAMIC CRASH TEST. THESE TESTS WERE CONDUCTED TO DEMONSTRATE THE SYSTEM'S ABILITY TO PROVIDE PROTECTION TO THE FRONT PASSENGER OF AN AUTOMOBILE DURING A FRONTIAL IMPACT OF 30 MPH AND AT THE SAME TIME HAVE A SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED NOISE LEVEL. DURING THE CRASH TEST, TWO SYSTEMS WERE COMPARED FOR ADEQUATE PROTECTION TO THE FRONT PASSENGER. ONE SYSTEM DEMONSTRATED THE DESIRED CONTROLLED DIRECTIONAL RESPONSE BY CONTAINING AND RESTRAINING THE UPPER TORSO OF THE OCCUPANT WITH THE CENTER PORTION OF THE AIR BAG CUSHION. /NTIS/
