DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPUTER PROGRAM TO AID THE INVESTIGATION OF HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS
A COMPUTER PROGRAM AND AN ASSOCIATED OPTICAL MEASUREMENT SYSTEM ARE DESCRIBED WHICH HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED TO AID THE INVESTIGATION OF HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS. THE DESCRIBED DEVELOPMENTS CONSTITUTE THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF A SYSTEM WHICH WILL PROVIDE A CAPABILITY OF PROCESSING AND EVALUATING DATA, VIA RADIO CONTACT WITH THE OPERATOR OF A TIME-SHARING COMPUTER TERMINAL, WHILE THE INVESTIGATORS ARE AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE. RECONSTRUCTIONS PRODUCED BY THE COMPUTER PROGRAM ARE COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS OF STAGED COLLISIONS IN THE LITERATURE. THE INSTRUMENTED OPTICAL SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED IN DETAIL AND RESULTS OF TRIAL APPLICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. PLANS FOR COMPLETION AND EVALUATIO OF THE OVERALL SYSTEM, WHICH COULD NOT BE IMPLEMENTED WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF EFFORT, ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
