THIS 37TH ANNUAL STATISTICAL REPORT ON RAILROAD GRADE CROSSING ACCIDENTS CONTAINS A SERIES OF TABLES THAT BREAK THESE ACCIDENTS DOWN BY A VARIETY OF FACTORS, E.G., SEVERITY, TYPE OF CROSSING PROTECTION, AND VEHICLE TYPE. THE 1971 FIGURES SHOW A 4.7% DECREASE FROM 1970 IN THE NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS AND A 1.8% DECLINE IN THE NUMBER OF CASUALTIES.
